SAN DIEGO NONPROFIT PARTNERS AWARDED NEARLY $1 MILLION IN RECOVERY ACT FUNDS FOR JOBS IN CALIFORNIA’S GROWING INDUSTRIES June 23, 2010 -- The TechWORKS Alliance, a new community partnership between Able-Disabled Advocacy (A-DA) and the San Diego Futures Foundation (SDFF) was awarded $919,955 to provide skills training in information technology. (pdf) DONATION FROM THE MICROSOFT STORE June 30, 2010 – San Diego Futures Foundation (SDFF), the non-profit organization that uses technology to change lives, expanded its partnership with Microsoft last week when it received a $200,000 technology grant at the grand opening of the country’s fourth Microsoft Store at Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego. (pdf) San Diego, CA -- Youth participating in the City Heights Technology Corps will have plenty to write about in the traditional back-to-school essay. Eighty six youth ranging in age from 16 to 20 participated in technology-based summer work experience and community service. The San Diego Futures Foundation provided the program for youth in the City Heights community. All of the youth had prior experience with technology through enrollment in Hoover High School’s Academy of Information Technology, Crawford High School’s Media Arts Programs and other educational programs. (pdf) SAN DIEGO BROADBAND INITIATIVE REDUCES THE DIGITAL DIVIDE BY DISTRIBUTING OVER 1, 950 COMPUTERS TO LOW INCOME FAMILIES COUNTYWIDE (pdf) San Diego, CA -- The San Diego Broadband Initiative (SDBI), a program led by the San Diego Futures Foundation and a collaboration of community partners, has reduced the digital divide in unconnected communities throughout San Diego County. Formed to provide technology and technical resources to San Diego's underserved and low-income families, SDBI delivered hardware, software, applications, training, technical services and related resources to over 1,950 low-income families in San Diego's urban disadvantaged neighborhoods. By bridging the “digital divide,” these families have access to an improved quality of life including not only computers and connections, but access to training that leads to higher levels of education and employment. SEMPRA ENERGY SUPPORTS COMMUNITY E-WASTE RECYCLING (pdf)
July 31, 2009 -- Sempra Energy Foundation has awarded the San Diego Futures Foundation a $5,000 grant to provide free e-waste recycling for San Diego businesses and residents. SAN DIEGO FUTURES FOUNDATION LAUNCHES TECHNOLOGY-BASED SUMMER WORK EXPERIENCE IN CITY HEIGHTS (pdf) June 24, 2009 -- The San Diego Futures Foundation (SDFF) is launching its first summer youth work experience program, the City Heights Technology Corps. Funded by the San Diego Workforce Partnership as part of “Hire –a-Youth,” SDFF will train and place 89 students to utilize technology in community service programs in the City Heights community. DONATION FROM LAS PATRONAS FUNDS A BIG, MEAN RECYCLING MACHINE (pdf) May 19, 2009 -- Thanks to a generous donation from Las Patronas, the San Diego Futures Foundation (SDFF) is now able to collect large loads of e-waste to recycle in a socially responsible and earth-friendly manner. A $12,000 donation from Las Patronas helped SDFF to purchase a used Mitsubishi FH diesel truck, capable of hauling large amounts of outdated computers, monitors, TVs and other unwanted electronic equipment.
