eLearn2Earn Builds Social Skills
eLearn2Earn is a pro-active dropout prevention program. The downward process in school engagement usually begins in the sixth grade. The transition from elementary school to middle school is intimidating for many youth. Their future behavior is profoundly influenced at this juncture, which makes it is an ideal time for engaging youth in positive activities.
As part of eLearn2Earn, youth explore civic engagement and can perform community service, learning cooperation, camaraderie and reciprocation, assets that build resiliency in youth.
eLearn2Earn is effective
In the first year of operation, eLearn2Earn participants demonstrated an average learning gain of 67% in 6 core subjects. A key component of eLearn2Earn is a points-based rewards system that provides incentives and motivation for the students to stay actively involved. At the beginning of the program, kids review the rewards items and choose a goal. For each module a student completes, they earn points towards rewards. The youth are highly motivated and invest time and effort to progress through modules to earn the prizes they want.
eLearn2Earn is a Valuable Community Asset
The development and pilot phases of eLearn2Earn were supported through the generosity of the County of San Diego Board of Supervisors. SDFF spent two years and $100,000 to design and implement eLearn2Earn. Most organizations serving disadvantaged populations have limited budgets and are unlikely to provide a program using the sophisticated technology that operates eLearn2Earn. eLearn2Earn was costly to develop and test pilot. Once perfected, the operational costs for eLearn2Earn are minimal while its outcomes are significant..
