For Individuals

Did you know that nearly 150,000 households in San Diego do not have a computer or access the Internet at home? This is San Diego's digital divide; mostly low-income families, people with disabilities, and senior citizens who for many reasons aren't able to adopt technology in their homes. One of SDFF's key goals is to work with funders and community partners to bridge this divide.

The program SDFF has developed to address this issue is the San Diego Broadband Initiative (SDBI).  Through this program, individuals are able to obtain equipment, Internet services, and training at significantly reduced costs. To provide even more resources, SDFF opened the SDFF Community Technology Center (CTC) in June of 2011. The Tech Center is located at 4305 University #130, San Diego CA 92105 in City Heights which is located at the southeast corner of 43rd & University.  There is no need for an appointment or referral, but donated and low-cost equipment is restricted to qualified individuals.

Services available at the Tech Center include:

  • Educational workshops for individuals and small, disadvantaged businesses
  • Technical training
  • A learning and resource center covering topics like Internet access, security and privacy, and computer basics

Equipment on display and available for purchase include:

  • Desktop PCs
  • Laptops
  • Software
  • Accessories including USB drives, Laptop Cases, printers, and more
Refurbished computer donations and affordable equipment for sale to qualified individuals is made possible by the generous support of the County of San Diego, Northrop Grumman, NTIA and Hewlett Packard.
